Use it as a normal Whirlwind - Tau Fire warriors are 4+ - so you'd kill those on 2's (no save).
With ignore cover, you could kill pathfinders on 3's (no save) and Fire Warriors in cover on 3's with 4+.
Better than the 2+ go to ground, ruins and shrouding he got against your barrage artillery last time!

Sicaran - shoot his skimmers straight away.

Drop combat shields, and go for power fists - insta killing anything but his warlord (T5) on a 2... his crisis team will lose combat and you could snag his warlord in the Initiative roll-off.

Drop Pods are really useful to get closer to Tau - Rhinos will get popped instantly if he has Hammerheads or even S7 missiles - FA 11 - 4+ Glances LOL!

I would drop pod your troops right next to his Tau - Template them first. Then use your awesome shoot everything twice rule for a turn 1 smash and grab.
Also - think Psyker with Telepathy. Tau soldier leadership is 7 or 8 if he has a sergeant - psychic shriek average dice roll is 11.
That is minimum 3 wounds no saves. Tau have no real anti-psyker, so drop pod a psyker too and hope you get invisibility!!

Hope that helps ha!!

Trying to build the list for all comers not just arifs tau. Psyker might be a good idea tbf.

Should i kit out my warlord for CC beastlyness (95 points) or spread the love around.

EDIT:- Also those fire warriors shouldnt have taken that cover save as you measure cover from barrage from the center of the template.

Yeah, i'd avoid list tailoring, with the amount of MEQ in Escalation a balanced list is a better approach. You have to be careful with drop pods against Tau, one of the few armies that can deal with it due to being able to put interceptor on a lot of units.

As for your warlord, where will you put him?

I'd bang him with a squad, and which squad you put him with determine your load out.
40k- Space marines(5000 pts) Imperial guard (3000 pts) Tau (3000 pts)
Epic 40k-Space marines/Imperial Guard(2000 pts)
Infinity Yu jing (Aprox 1000 pts)
Necromunda Escher Mad capsules Avalanche
Blood bowl Skaven

I can either leave him barebones, put him with the support squad and give them tank hunters maybe. Or shove him on a tac squad and kit him to be survivable and killy in CC.

Thom - he doesn't have access to standard Whirlwinds, Power Fists are outshined by a lot of other stuff in 30k too.
Psyker access is limited as Librarians can't be your mandatory HQ slot.

Kitting out your Warlord depends on his role - Legion Centurions are support characters, hence the Consul rules. Praetors are what you want in combat, realistically - unless the points restrict you to a Centurion. A Praetor would also give you access to Rites of War. Here's another option list:

I'd avoid him on his own, easy first blood and slay the warlord rolled into one.

I'd go with him in a Tac squad myself kit him out as follows-

Legion Centurion (110pts) [Artificer Armour, Nanyte Blaster, Refractor Field]
··Rules: Consul, Independent Character, Legiones Astartes, Uncontrolled Replication
··Profiles:
····Legion Centurion: Unit Type:Infantry|WS:5|BS:5|S:4|T:4|W:2|I:5|A:3|LD:9|Save:3+
····Refractor Field: Description:Confers 5++ Invulnerable Save
····Nanyte Blaster: Range:12"|Strength:5|AP:2|Type:Assault 1, Fleshbane, Uncontrolled Replication

Because of low points level don't want to go overboard with upgrades but adds a decent save, invulnerable and should have FnP if you put apothercary in the squad as well. Might be worth adding a bolter as well, as 2 pts will give you a shot at 24".

But it is down to your personal preference more than anything, so go with what you want. Smile

I could drop a few upgrades here and there to build up my HQ or i could drop the apothecaries and make my seargants, HQ and sicaran abit better. Thoughts.

Volkite calivers are str6 ap5 24" heavy 2 and cause extra hits for every unsaved wound just so you know.

I prefer this list, Volkite is win too.
An apothecary for each Tac squad, Centurion with the Specialists or would you add him to a Tac squad too?

Maybe the specialists if i could get him an augry scanner. Let me check.

EDIT seems i cant without spending loads of points to be a forgelord. I feel to get him in close he needs 2+, but sitting at range he isnt going to be doing much usefull. Suggestions?
