Here Come the Greenskins!
#1
On Tuesday 12th July, 2011 (yesterday), two mighty forces clashed in a raging torrent of shatterd swords, broken bows and splintered shields. As the mighty High Elves tried to hold off the oncoming horde, they were viscously attacked by pure greenskin force.

To begin the game, the greenskins all advanced, up until the point where the unit of Orcs took the uncertain risk of entering a forest. Soon finding out that is was infact a Wild Wood, they panicked as the trees attacked them, and soon lost 2 soldiers in the resulting rage. Afterwards, the mighty Rock Lobber launched an unholy mass of debri through the air, slaying two elves, and taking a wound off of the more powerful of the two mages (the level 2 wizard).

And then it was the turn of the elves, and they quickly took to action. Only the great Prince of Griffon did any reconisable movement, swooping down just out of the melee range of the dangerously close unit of Da Immortulz (a special unit of Black Orcs) lead by their gruosome leader, Grimgor Ironhide. Afterwards, the horrible mage cast a spell which the tide could not dispel, leaving it vulnerable to take the full force of it. Onto the hoppers it was cast, so they had to take 15 strength 3 hits, but next turn strength 4 hits, and the next turn strength 5 hits, then 6 and so on. Slaying 8 of them, they had to act fast to not flee and leave the fighting zone. As they were Immune to Psychology (the mad maniacs), they were fine and just continued their reign of terror. The second level mage then cast a Fireball upon the measly unit of sneaky night goblins, charging head on. Only killing two of them, they continued their run. Then, the archers shot, slaying 4 spiders, causing them to flee 10".

Afterwards, the greenskins once again began their merciless charge forth. Da Immortulz reformed to face the nearby Prince. Next, the rest of the horde just advanced up, not slaying a single one of the Elves. The spiders continued to run away a further 7". Unfortunately, that is all that the horde could do, as they had no-one else to shoot. Oh, wait, the Rock Lobber, of course. Attempting an ambitous shot against the Prince, it missed and nearly hit the Mangler Squig.

Next, the Elves continued to slay Orcs and Goblins, using powerful, magical fire to destroy units, and Bowmen to decrease the number of spiders to just 4. Then, the mighty Griffon assaulted the poor Rock Lobber, causing it to flee off the edge before it even touched it, due to its sheer Terror. By the end of the Elven turn, Fireballs had been thrown and volleys hadbeen fired, resulting in my Orcs and Goblins casualty pile to look like this:
  • A whole unit of 15 squigs.
  • 2 night gobbos
  • A Rock Lobber (along with Orc bully)
  • 6 spiders
  • 2 Orcs
  • Too much to Remember!
Not a pretty sight, but the tide was sure to get back at them, and take their revenge...

With the O+Gs, it was time for a spot of revenge. The unit of night goblins charged the unit of spearmen. But, coming within 8" of them, they then had to: Release the Fanatics! Letting them loose: Failed. They missed their target by about an inch or two, just hovering directly infront. The Gobbos had to continue their charge (the laws of physics are particularly harsh), getting into combat. Next, the Orc boyz charged straight into combat. The Black Orcs faced the Prince, then we got onto combat. The bottom line is: Uh Oh... The Orcs lost (only killing one Elf) and so had to retreat. Surprise surprise, so did the Gobbos. Retreating back, they had done their job of releasing the Fanatics.

The elven turn was all about chasing the orcs down and slaying them, and finishing off the spiders. The bowmen reduced the number of spiders to just 2, giving them as near as makes no difference no hope of survival. Finally, the elves had finished their turn of utter annihalation. The Orcs had survived their ordeal, but that could not be said for the poor and (quite frankily) pathetic little gobbos. Their numbers were now in the single digits, now just living off only 7 night goblins. The Orcs were still fighting strong, as they had only lost 4/5 in the combat, but were nonetheless still retreating back to the board edge. Utter, utter annihalation.

Now it was time toget some revenge. No units rallied, and the spiders were just prolonging their inevvitable downfall. The Orcs were still going back, as were the gobbos, but then it went uphill for the green mass. A fanatic had been lost in the previous turn, but were the other two shaken? Naaaa. They were too drunk on mushroom juice to even have the thougth of retreating cross their mind. One of the remaining mad men swung his ball and chain in the direction of the Bolt Thrower, killing it with ease. From then on it was just a colossal chain reaction. First went the Phoenix Guard, then the Mage, then the Bowmen. All that the Elven people had left in their arsenal was a Prince on Griffon and their Spearmen.

On turn 4 for the elven men, they were all just gathering up tactics and were thinking of how that they could gain those few extra Victory Points for their race. They then decided to take it out on the Orcs, so attempted a charge at them, tbut fell short of the tide's fleeing distance, so did not slay them. The Griffon turned around and came back towards the Orcs.

Turn 5 for the Orcs was a great one. The Orcs rallied and were ready for battle. The Black Orcs were bringing up the rear, and so could not really compete much in this battle. Anyway, the Orcs reformed and were facing the oncoming Elves. The Gobbos fled off the table and died, but the Orcs weren't fussed. They were ready for battle.

Unfortunately, the elves were just out of range, so just got even more prepped for their battle next turn. The Griffon swept down and was prepared to kill some Orcs.

The last turn of the game was where the battle would be won or lost. The Spiders fled past the archers that had spent the entire game sitting on a wall, causing them to flee off the edge and die. A bit of their own medicine, really. The Orcs advanced up to the oncoming Elves, certain that they would be fighting next turn.

CHARGE!!! The Elves went into combat with the Orcs, as did the Griffon. The Elves made all of their attacks first (Always Strike First special rule) and slayed 3/4 of the Orc tide. But then it was the turn of the Orcs. The Griffon was slayed, as was an Elf, and then, the battle was halted.

605 VCs to the O+G, against just 455 VCs for the Elves.
Victory to the Orcs and Goblins!!!
Apologies if it is not accurate, but I forgot to take notes!

Excellent report Luke.

Not even the counting of those lost flags could sway the final outcome.

It was an excellent game. HE tactics use superior shooting and magic to smash the green hoard to bits - worked a treat. They were going up in smoke and running for the hills. But them mindless mushroom munching fanatics put the fear of something in the Pheonix Guard... and when they looked around to gain confidence from the Battle Standard, Lord High Elf Agincourt realised he'd left it at home and they ran faster than the orcs, followed by the mage, the archers... Oh the shame of it... But at least they are all still alive and ready for the re-match!!!

Well played Luke.
