Harry confirming this on Warseer?

Months and months and months ago, early last year some time, Harry (I think ) wrote that their would be a new faction for fantasy that they would be the equivalent of 40ks space marines.
I hate it when that happens.

The mankind will be one army together. Meaning the Empire and the Bretonians become the "survivors". Good luck with that!

This actually made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that.

I suspect that there may be a few more folks signing up for J.A.D.E.D in the not too distant. (See Below)

.... and a lot more people playing Oldhammer.

And just found this big wall of text by him, not the clearest but confirms he expects skirmish and round bases near bottom...-

Goddammit Harry. You're like a present-day oracle. The slightest quirk of wording could be very meaningful (how long did you wait for your "it's not the end times just yet" to pay off?).

Now I'm left wondering what's a typo and what's a hidden clue.
About six months .... but i first heard about ita good six months before I posted that.
Sometimes it is not all that cryptic .....

I tried to find some of my old posts about this. i have posted about this 6 months, 12 months and 18 months ago. But many of my recent posts have been deleted.???

In the end I had to go find some of what I had said on BOLS Forum where Big red had quoted me from here. (Thanks Red)

OK, here's one for you .....

Chaos Vs "Humans".

OMG.

At least fluff-wise, nothing's gonna be again the same. It all will change. All.

Harry: You are not wrong there fella. That is what I have been saying.

Big Red: So first up, Harry called the End Times and Glottkin by name over 6 months out. So when he says something, you should take it as much more serious than garden variety rumors.

This insinuation of new boxed sets and unified "Human" factions all feeds back into Harry's earlier speculation on GW utterly shattering the game with the End Times series, to produce a very different environment and game on the other side of the series.

After months of absence, the BEST rumormonger out there returns to talk about the End Times of Warhammer Fantasy:

Harry's BACK from the wilderness!

Harry: You may remember last year I was being very vague about some 'radical changes' in a thread about 9th edition.

Back at the start of the year, in one of my first posts of the new year I said this:

I don't think they are trying to destroy it.
I suspect they will be trying their hardest to breath new life into it.
We are not seeing the "End times" for Warhammer just yet.

Did you see what I did there?
The clues are always there fellas.

So I first heard about all this last autumn?
I was told 2014 would be "Year zero" for Warhammer.

Had no idea what that meant at first but if you Google your way to the wikipedia you get this:

The term Year Zero, applied to the takeover of Cambodia in April 1975 by the Khmer Rouge, is an analogy to the Year One of the French Revolutionary Calendar. During the French Revolution, after the abolition of the French monarchy (September 20, 1792), the National Convention instituted a new calendar and declared the beginning of the Year I. The Khmer Rouge takeover of Phnom Penh was rapidly followed by a series of drastic revolutionary de-industrialization policies resulting in a death toll that vastly exceeded that of the French Reign of Terror.

The idea behind Year Zero is that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is deemed largely irrelevant, as it will (as an ideal) be purged and replaced from the ground up.

It was made clear to me that this was what we were talking about for warhammer.
Everything that existed being completely destroyed (or discarded) and something new replacing it from scratch ... purged and replaced from the ground up.

I hinted in various posts that they would be getting rid of the existing timeline, the existing map, etc. (In an effort to soften the blow. )

I am going to get this a bit wrong because I honestly can't remember where I heard it but to confirm the three book rumour .... I did hear the "End times" were going to be spread over three books.

Nagash was the first, followed by Malekith followed by Glotkin

Good luck with that!

...You have to ask yourself .... What will remain of the world as we know it when it has been ravaged in turn by the Undead, the Dark Elves, Skaven, and Chaos?

...Whatever 9th is it will be set in the grimmest, darkest post apocalyptic Warhammer fantasy world yet.

You think I haven't had all the same thoughts being voiced on here?

I can't see them throwing out everything they have done either ... but the only way to own the IP is to loose all the generic Fantasy that other companies can copy ... normal Dwarves, Elves and sure as heck you have to get rid of the historical based human armies ... or you can go build an Empire or Bretonnian army from anyone's miniatures.
I can't see them getting rid of any armies either ... but they can not continue to support all of them so some of them have to go or some get mashed together.
I can't see them wanting to reduce the number of minis you need .... but if it costs too much to complete an army people don't even start an army ...so is it better to sell some minis for a scaled down game or no minis? Is it better to ramp up the Lords and monsters allowance and keep on selling the big kits so an army is 'more tanks and less infantry' and thus less minis and easier to paint .... or sell no minis.
Simple fact is so many people have so many armies now unless they do something drastic with the look of the armies no-one is buying enough minis. The only way to force folks to buy new stuff is if we cannot use our current stuff. Some folks may refuse to buy the new stuff on principal ..... what do they care? They were not buying the stuff anyway as they already had their army. Imagine how badly Fantasy must be selling compared to 40K if anyone even thought about knocking it on the head for even a moment .... they must be thinking .... it can't make things any worse!!! What have we got to loose??? But if they are doing this why even bother completing 8th edition? Why do all the books?

I have been around and around with this in my head ..... the only thing that makes any sense to me at the end of the day is that 8th edition is complete enough and robust enough to endure a bit longer and 9th edition will not be a complete new edition of the rules .... but an alternative background and rules with which to play post End times battles but you still need the core rules to play A bit like all the stuff in Strom of Magic was an add on to the existing rules. The core rules and books will still exist for those that want to remain stuck in the timeline but if you want to be down with the cool kids you really need to buy the new post End Times stuff.

I don't know what else I can add to this.
I don't have all the answers.

But for what its worth .... I think it will be round bases.
First said that on here more than 18 months ago .... when someone guessed close to the mark talking about WFB becoming a skirmish game.

It all sounds very plausible to me. Here's why:

1. Vets don't buy things. They buy enough to keep current in the hobby. Sometimes they don't even do that.
2. The prices make it difficult for new players to buy things.
3. Fantasy is bloated. There are too many armies with too many codes.
4. At what point does maintaining the status quo with WHFB become an albatross? Lots of anecdotal evidence that it just does not sell.

So, product bloat, high prices, and flagging sales? Change All the Things. Change the scale of battle: no more massed blocks of troops. Change the factions: compress and homogenize, add flavor later in the form of single special models/units and DLC. Change the fluff: break the high fantasy mold, change the faction names, protect the IP.

It all makes perfect sense.

If they do update all the army books as rumoured before 9th hits, leaving 8th playable for Vets and 9th as a new way of playing does make sense from a money making way. But it is a massive risk at the same time!

With regards to the above points.

1 - Correct for their army. But Vets tend to spend more, collecting multiple armies, and new releases for their existing ones, when they get redone. How many players of either GW game, are exclusive to one force? Very very few. They have multiple armies so that point was utter garbage.
2 - Correct prices make it harder for people. So what do GW do? Release kits that cost upwards of £70. Which makes that point whilst valid, an example of what GW be leave the opposite.
3 - Fantasy has 15 armies of which 3 (being the Elves,) are similar. That's 13 realistic army choice. That number could be slimmed. Point accepted.
However 40k have 18 armies, of which 8 are essentially a version of marines (counting Necrons as metal versions, and Sisters as the female version,) and two are Eldar. The same could be said for 40k. To be honest I thought their best idea was when the had the Marine codex, and various other much slimmer codices for BA, DA, CF and Salamanders hidden in Armageddon. Only Space Wolves functioned different enough to warrant a seperate book, and the rest pulled parts from the parent codex. However for a company where people say they have problems with in entry numbers, the last thing you would do when having so many codices is to then release stuff like Farsight and Ghazgkull. Point then invalidated.
4 - Fantasy sells just not in the volumes 40k does. And Fantasy players accept that, and the glut of books released in 2013 was very welcome. We would be happy if GW did their money making all year, but gave us stuff maybe every 4 or 5 months. Then they would still be turning a profit on the WFB stuff just not as fast.

WFB and 40k appeal to different people. Some people just like the look of an "Army" rather than a few squads of a few men. And that is probably why WFB doesn't sell as much (or as fast.) A WFB army costs a damn sight more than a 40k one, but it also takes longer to get together. The number of models I have painted for my Lizards and High Elves in the past two years, would give me 6 or 7 forces for 40k. That would show a lot of 40k sales, if I did that but not so much for fantasy (I'm trying to say, if I bought say 3 boxes of White Lions for a unit, and spent two months painting them, that would show one sale in two months, but if I did one unit of marines, another unit of marines, then a third, and bought them as the previous was finished in the same period, the store would show three 40k sales in that period, even though the same money had been spent.)

My biggest fear is that the WFB players get pushed into a game they don't want. I don't want a squad based game, I want an army based game. Do what they want with the armies to a degree, I'm not against the End Times model, because we can still play the, seperate. And yes the club or wherever could still play 8th edition, but if GW massively change in 9th, and then essentially drop armies and models, where do I get my stuff from. All that would do, is push the consumer into the alternate model market for their stuff, which with their legal battle with CHS I doubt they really want to do.

Good points raised Gaz, i should say i don't think (if this pans out to be true) killing off WFB and turning 9th into skirmish would be the way to go. I think it will make a lot people look at alternatives and/or become fully disenfranchised from GW and potentially kill off peoples interest in the fantasy side off things.

As a product to go alongside WFB it would be welcome but as they killed off specialist games i can see it replacing it instead. I do like how it sounds like they are introducing WFB space marine like line to replace humans. Surprised it took them this long to realize that what WFB was missing was fantasy Space marines with mechanical crossbow guns and hand crossbow guns and swords. (obviously sarcasm!)

The outcry on various forums is mental, does make for good reading though as it doesn't affect me, i'm to busy collecting space marines!

So unlike 40k where the rules are published to sell the new models, WFB has seen rules published in the interests of creating a gaming world. For years there has been talk of Brettonians being dropped due to poor sales, but the same was true of Wood Elves. And yet when the Woodies actually did get a new book, what did GW see happen? They sold out of every copy of every book they had, had printed, around the Europe before they got any to independent retailers. Wayland, Element Games, Firestorm Games in the UK, independent stores got zero copies. US independents got a grand total of ONE copy of the book. This from a core book (not one of their limited sub-codices such as Waaaagh Ghazgkull,) had never happened before, and additionally all WE kits sold out, including Glade Guard models which were around when the game was in 6th edition. Additionally it took them 3 months to be able to get Citadel Woods in stock. Since then we have had the End Times products all of which have sold out, and due to demand has seen them forced to go back to soft covers. And the latest book that has seen their greatest print run yet (because they had time to see the Nagash sales numbers before Khaine went to print,) didn't even see out 300 seconds before sold out around the world, via their web-store.

Latest demand from a system that some people in GW believes cannot sell, has seen the webstore explode globaly. I spent over one hour frantically reloading their website before I got my copy in the bag.

This is whats happened on my twitter feed, when WFB players get something decent.

I expected that to happen to be honest as they made it direct only this time, can't get the Hard back from LFGS and they have no idea when they are getting soft cover version. Which means that obviously those that wanted it and would normally buy from LFGS were forced to camp webstore to get it, so increased traffic.

Did you see this in person Vince? Photo was going round last night with Photoshop claims attached to it. I meant to pick a copy up from Hobby Hut to read on the way to the football, but instead I watched some TV before heading off.
