IG Hydra Autocannons
#1
Hey folks, I'd like people to wade in on whether or not Hydra Autocannons can fire normally at ground units. In the previous edition they fired as normal against all targets and were just improved Autoncannons. In the new rules they have Skyfire which means they can shoot fliers as normal. They do not however have Interceptor. The way I read this means that they can now only snap-fire at ground units (hitting on 6's). I have been told by several that this is not the case and that they may choose not to use Skyfire and fire as normal at ground units.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to be wrong here as this would make the Hydra way WAY better in my opinion.

If you have an opinion either way can you please provide supporting links etc.

The unit themselves does not have skyfire, the weapon does. therefore its not an option and you have to use BS1 to fire at none flyers (least how i read it anyway)

same with a flakk missile from a missile launcher.

if a unit/model has the skyfire rule then it becomes a choice. (eg the contemptor dreadnought "gains the skyfire and interceptor rule if it hasn't moved in the previous movement phase." so the unit not the weapon gets the rules and its a choice then)

Yeah, it was the weapon itself, not the unit, I'm asking about. The Hull-mounted weapons can fire as normal.

i think thats my point. you cant choose to fire a plasma gun without the gets hot rule as its in the weapon profile, so you cant choose to fire a flakk cannon without using the skyfire special rule.

Indeed, I agree. I'm looking for someone who said they could to explain why.
