It does tend to be much quieter on the Friday than at the weekend.

Security at UK Games Expo
Update on arrangements

Following the tragic events that occurred in Manchester this week Richard and I have been in close communication with the security team at the NEC. Firstly we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to all those who have been affected by the bombing and I know that the UKGE community stands with the people of Manchester and the UK in responding to an act of hatred with an increased determination to show tolerance to all those we encounter.

On a practical note the NEC and UKGE are working with the police and security services in trying to ensure the safety of everyone visiting the event. The NEC has been on an increased state of security alert for some time but is further increasing both its foot and vehicle patrols. In addition to this specialist dog teams will be on site and the use of random bag searches will be increased on access to the venue. We understand that this may cause a little bit of a delay when getting in and so we ask you would allow some extra time to allow for this, especially if you have a tournament that has a particular start time. Tournaments referees will be informed that they need to allow for delayed arrivals due to security.

Richard and I both feel that it is right to proceed while doing our utmost to keep everyone safe. We cannot give in the those who wish to dictate how we should live. Our best response is to continue to live our lives as a tribute to those who have lost theirs. We look forward to seeing you all.

Richard Denning and Tony Hyams

(UKGE Directors)

We often see staff at little tables checking peoples bags at the NEC, just out of interest I asked them one day "what happens if someone refuses a bag search" he said "as its a private building they can refuse entry, and if that person ignores them they just radio ahead to the armed security and have them forcefully stopped."

Cool stuff, like they said, just give yourself a little extra time and everything will be fine.

I'm still going Friday, if anyone needs a lift back to Redditch (or some boxes ferried) drop me a message. I'll be at work in the morning so cant help anyone get there but sure can help with getting back.
