Need to have a look through the rules myself, but from what I've read this isn't so much a game, more a put models on table, roll dice, thing. Main problem being over simplicity and...no points values! So you can't set up balanced forces. Seems crazy to me, expecting this is going to nose dive. What do others think?

RE: Warhammer: Age of Sigmar - Gareth - 05-07-2015

Thursday I was in a GW talking to a staff member about the game. To say he was negative about the whole thing is an understatement. Basically whilst at His HQ intro he brought up the lack of any internal balance, and things quickly moved on.

Having glossed over the rules, I can see that possibly the Sudden Death victories helping the game, but I would want to have a fair few battles to fully decide. However what does worry me is that in their current format there is no way to actually get models onto the table, and I don't mean points values.

So to play the game I need miniatures from my collection. As many as I like but the more the longer the game. - OK fine
Each model has a warscroll. These are units, and you cannot add models with a different warscroll to the unit - OK fine

So by my understanding I can take - Archaeon, High Queen Khalida, 20 Iron Breakers, 5 Questing Knights, and 10 Sisters of the Thorn.
At not point do the rules state that models must have the same alignment despite them making a deal if it in WD.

I can't get my head around why they'd do this? Surely Warhammer is there bread and butter? This has thrown it all away, years of rules development etc. Age of Sigmar looks like a load of rubbish to me. I'll be amazed if it doesn't nose dive. I'll be continuing to play the previous incarnation.

Yeah reading about it I won't be getting the game but would happily play any of the previous incarnations.

a friend of mind did a fair amount of testing over the weekend and has posted a review.

Yeah looking at it. Cant say I'm impressed. The free rules pdf is a good redeeming feature though. Also the models are quite pretty, with some good 40k conversion ideas (especially the daemon prince).

Looks like (someone) thought the rules were too difficult for new players and pushed through a WHFB "light". That or their End times range was flagging and they need another game to tap into it.

If you take it as a seperate game (like in the blissful days of necromunda and mordheim). Then I suppose its ok.

Having never really touched fantasy I find these rules really strange and vague! Not sure if this will inspire me to buy some square bases although the gold guys with the shield and hammer would make amazing thunder hammer terminators for my sanguinary guard army haha.
