Bushido - An introduction to the Savage Wave
#1
Am incoming thread about how the Savage Wave works, and any tips and tricks to help you play with them, or fight against them.

Okay lets start with "What are the Savage Wave." The Savage Wave are the Demons of the Bushido game. So far they are made up of two types of troops, and so far these troops operate in a different way, to the rest of the forces available at the moment. The types that exist to date are the Oni (of which only Zuba the All Seeing has been released, and he is the big Hellboy looking model) and the Bakemono (which resemble Gremlins from the films.)

Starting with the Bakemono, imagine them to be like Gretchin or Goblins of the GW universes. They are week and cowardly. but when you have several gang up on you, they can kill through a thousand paper cuts. Your standard Bakemono has 4 wounds, will roll one dice in melee, and have a Ki stat of 1, capped at 3. They have Cowardly (4), which means they fear everything, Camoflage (6) which means they cannot be targeted when your action starts 6" away, and are Small, so they get an extra defence dice in ranged combat. All in all one Bakemono will be hard to target, but easy to kill, and they will not be doing much against you. However they have a number of tricks up their sleeve, when they form into gangs.
The Bakemono Horde, gives the Bakemono a number of rules, abilities and feats when they are with their friends. When two Bakemono are within 2" of each other they are considered a Bakemono Horde. Firstly during the Ki generation phase, each member of a Bakemono Horde can place their Ki on themselves, or into the communal Bakemono Horde pool.
Secondly depending on how many Bakemono are in the Horde, each individual Bakemono will gain traits. For 2+ they can draw Ki from the Bakemono Horde pool, as if it was their own, meaning clumps of Bakemono can quickly generate alot of Ki, and perform some spectacular Ki Feats early on. For 3+ they lose Cowardly and Camoflage traits, but gain Leech/Special (Bakemono Horde), which allows them to remove Ki from the Horde and place them on their own card (not spectacular but if a Bakemono was about to die from a 2 person horde, the surviving member can steal some Ki for use later,) and the Combined Activation (Bakemono.) Its the combined activation that allows upto 4 Bakemono to attack a target before it can strike back. Finally for 4+ they gain Bravery, so they go from being scared of a paper bag, to being able to reroll failed fear tests.
The members of a horde also gain 3 Feats. Firstly for 4 Ki, you have "Summon from the Shadow." You can place a new Bakemono within 2" of any Horde member, thats not in an enemies Zone of Control, or closer than an existing Bakemono. It comes into play exhausted. This feat allows you to quickly swell the numbers of the Bakemono on the table. Secondly you have "Whispers from Blackness." For X Ki you can make a target take a Ki test, which if failed gives that model the Cowardly (X) trait until the end phase. You can increase the number of targets by one for 2 Ki per target. To be honest to get to a sizable value it is going to suck Ki from the pool. Finally we have the game a game winner in the form of "Creeping Darkness." For 6 Ki until the end phase the table is covered in a blanket of total darkness, and line of sight is reduced to 2" for all models (friend and foe.) This stops most ranged attacks, and also charges. It also allows you to use the Feat that all Bakemono have, even when out of Horde, "From the Darkness." For 1 Ki - Simple, if the Bakemono is out of line of sight, you can remove it from the table, and place it anywhere else on the table as long as it is in base to base with a piece of scenery and remains out of line of sight.

Yesterday I used the two last Feats to turn the table dark, and move a horde of 3 Bakemono behind Lukes battle lines.
