Wills First Tournament Thread
#11
Magic can be very powerful, but it assumes you roll at least average dice. At the club Tuesday my HE v dwarves I got first turn and rolled 3, dwarves nicked 1 dice so I had just 2, next turn I had 5 dice then 2 again. The way I look at magic is you should get 7 dice on average and your opponent will have 5 defence on average. Work out what spells you would cast with 7 dice v 5 defence, then decide if it's worth putting lots of points into more than two mages. I wouldn't... However, the way to learn is to play test...

I went with this list, Nothing exciting or different but fun to play with win or lose! Cannons may be a problem but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I think after this tournament I'm going to have to start weaning myself off the beast banner, S4 in my big horde is nice but a 2+ armour save alone is not enough to keep the BSB alive.

50/50 chance of being best beastman player there. whoo! 50/50 chance of being the worst as well but you can't have everything.

Shame about having warriors as my first draw, but at least I've had some practice against them. I imagine the warriors at the tournament will be a lot more evil than what I've played before though.

Luke uses Beastmen a lot. However he is one proper strange fellow. Pleasant but a little weird. And his Beasts in no way resemble Beasts. They are more Tomb Kings.

The draw might end up changing, and I have a feeling they are going to make it open lists.

3 Skullcrushers of Khorne (Ensorcelled weapons, Musician)

Will your up against 160 unknown points. I would imagine at least the Mage has an Enchanted shield as he cannot buy a normal one. Deamon Prince WILL have the charmed shield to avoid cannon sniping, so that's another 5 points covered. BSB will most lively have either a 5+ ward (boosted to 4,) re-rolling 1s or a 4+ ward (boosted to 3s.)

Alan you are up against 250 unknown points. However the 3units of Warhounds will most likely be Vanguards. At the minimum they need to have upgrades as otherwise the army is under 25% core. I LOVE this army. It's going to be moving at least 14" a turn towards you immune to Panic. However the Strider unit is hitting at S3, so it might end up bouncing against one of the Big Blocks. The Combo Charge with Chariots will mess you up though, so beware.
