Osprey Publishing 2013/2014 Wargaming Titles
#2
Bit more on the mythological title "Of Gods and Mortals" from Andrea Sfiligoi:

Quote:It was supposed to be a secret for some time but somehow the cat slipped
out of the bag...http://www.ospreypublishing.com/blog/wargaming_coming_2013/

I have been working on this project for several months now time now and I
was unable to share the ideas and early concept with you guys because we
were waiting for Osprey's marketing department to give us a green-light.
I've been working on this with Philip Smith of Osprey who is a Ganesha fan
(and has volunteered to be the copy editor of *Song of Spear and Shield*,
by the way).

OGAM (Of Gods and Mortals) is a fantasy skirmish wargame ruleset based on
the *Song of Blades* engine in which heroes, monsters, demigods, gods and
units of mortals clash for dominance of the battlefield. So if you ever
wanted to know if Thor could defeat Ares, or what would happen when the
Egyptian pantheon clashes with the Norse Gods, these are the rules. And
yes, mortal troops are historical figures, so you can have your Spartans,
Celts, Egyptians and Norse fighting against each other. You can even fight
internal battles within a pantheon, of course. Each player will need 16 to
20 figures. A point system will be provided so you can have games as large
or small as time and available models allow.

OGAM uses a three-tiered scale of power. Each player's force comprises a
few units of mortals, a single God, and Legends - an in-between tier of
powerful, unique creatures like the monsters and heroes of lore. Legends
are much stronger than mortals but not as powerful as the Gods themselves.
The God are true immortals -- if they are defeated (and boy it takes some
skill and luck to do that!) they do not die. They come back as soon as
enough mortals pray for them to reappear on the battlefield.

Now, here's the tricky part. The three tiers are interdependent. Gods lose
power and actually cannot exist without the support of mortals. The strength
of prayers, faith and oaths taken in the gods' names is what keeps the Gods
going.
Gods are the real powerhouses and keep the mortals fighting -- without
them, mortals lose heart. Mortals fuel the gods' powers through chanting
and prayer. Legends lead and inspire mortals -- or terrorize them and turn
them into mincemeat. The interactions between two tiers are what makes OGAM
unique and a challenging experience for the expert wargamer.

This will be a lavishly-produced rulebook in Osprey's style retailing for
£11.99. The core rules have been already written and are being tested.
Osprey should have a cover to show you at the end of next week. I'm working
on the army lists right now. I'll play a few games this weekend at a local
convention and will have pics for you, so you see what a typical OGAM force
looks like.

I hope you will like and support this book as it looks like it is going to
be the most important achievement in my game designer's career so far.
