Midlands Maelstrom 2 list ideas - will - 23-03-2018
Hey All,
We seem to be missing the traditional tournament list building ideas, and helping each other out thread for the upcoming maelstrom 2 tournament. So I thought I'd fix that
Anyway after being told off by the hotlz podcast, for poor excuses, I will be running UCM. I'm going to try something a bit, different though. So far one test game against luke and his Shaltari has gone well, but more games are needed!
The primary group I am concerned about is the twin Moscow due to the high SR and low speed, but they are a very scary group and must be delt with which is supposed to give my troopships a free reign! They might get replaced by destroyers when we find out more about them.
What about you guys, what are you thinking of taking?

Haha yeah and you thought 6 echo was scary!
after last Tuesdays game I am thinking that calibre(l) is definitely a bit much!That double battlecruiser list looks evil. The baslik/akuma is why I decided not to have any active scanners in my list. Is the second list based off how the first list did at the tournament?

In the tournament I don't think I used the Akuma & Basilisk that well, so the second list is more that I think I might do better with just 1, rather than I think the list itself is better. I don't have a Chimera cos i want to try out not having one and having more gargoyles to see which I prefer.

I would go 2nd list Luke, although you will have to be careful with only 9 voidgates. The amethyst after the nerf to D3 + 1 is not worth the points except maybe a single one for active scans.

Did you see the adepticon PHR list that won? Crazy list had 12 echo's, 3 troopships plus quite a few medea's, a single Bellerophon and some Europa's. Not suprised it won as echo's are mean!

Here's the list I'm trying next, not completely sold on the glass but will give them a go.
Really waiting for the Destroyer Rules to leak as I feel like they'll be the elusive 6th group, replacing the glass/topaz group. The Opal is mostly there to provide another active scan.

Comments on the others;
Will - Having played it, I really like the theme of your list, although I get the concept of the 2 Taipei group I'm not a fan. If it were me I'd turn it into an Active Scan Group - Pathfinder 3 of Jakarta plus 2 New Orleans. These can all move independently and give your more drop as well as Frigates you can throw at critical locations, as well as 2 active scans if you need them.
Chris - I like both lists, but if you run into someone with lots of Corvettes (say 9!) you might struggle with the all Gargoyle list - it's pretty frigate heavy and the Calibar change we've introduced is pretty powerful.
JJ - I prefer the second one, quite similar to mine! I think the Voidgates need to go with the Emeralds otherwise we're left hanging on the Blitzkrieg deployment, grouping them with the Diamond I've used in the last couple and it worked well. Having tried two Amethysts they were pretty useless, as Chris says I've used them as active scanners and the normally do quite well, the single Amethyst can then either go off to a critical location or harass frigate groups.
How does the Ruby do alongside the Diamond? I've got one but never used it.
