Thought I'd give a little love to a game system I've been playing for a while, designed for quick little skirmishes and perfect for those with children as an introduction to miniature wargaming.

Song of Blades and Heroes (SBH) is a set of rules penned by Andrea Sfiligoi and published by him as Ganesha Games.

SBH itself is focused on fantasy skirmish gaming but the core rules engine has been adapted to fit (sometimes by other authors) different genres including Napoleonic, Horror and Robots. There are also supplements available that add more rules, scenarios, character profiles, abilities and a campaign system to the core game. A few are listed on the Wikipedia page for the game.

Most Ganesha titles are available as PDFs for immediate download from Ganesha Games for $8. Titles are also available in paperback and kindle formats, and from other marketplaces such as Lulu, Wargame Vault and Amazon. Andrea gets the full benefit when you purchase directly from Ganesha.

Andrea has also penned a couple of titles for Osprey, namely Of Gods and Mortals and A Fistful of Kung Fu, both also based upon SBH.

The system leaves the choice of miniatures (and scale) open to the players. All titles include some character profiles and ability definitions, and there is a simple equation for creating custom characters of your choosing.

Games are played with a warband of a handful of figures.
